I don’t want pink cupcakes.
I want law reforms.

Women Making Waves is a technology company which exists to raise awareness, fund and scale women’s rights law reform. Many women’s rights laws were created 120 years ago, when women could not vote, open a bank account and before there was the first TV to be black and white. As a society we have come a long way, but our laws have not.

Born from a personal experience and a desire to modernize our legal system to reflect the world as it is today, WMW leverages scalable emerging technologies to empower communities to collaborate and fund a more just and equitable world.

It all began with an idea. A personal ‘why’ and a passion to introduce a younger demographic to philanthropy. We imagined what would happen if we harnessed the power of technology, engaged a community and created a new funding model for those who know how to reform our legal system. If we re-align our justice system, we may just be able to re-align our world.

HOW WE FUND CHANGE

As the world enters a new wave of innovation, WMW leverages technology, strategic partnerships and community to connect a younger demographic to philanthropy to raise awareness, fund and scale women’s rights law reform.

We do this through bespoke digital memberships that bring together aligned advocates to connect, learn and amplify each other's ambitions for a more just world.

  • Law Reform: The modernisation of the law by bringing it into accord with current society.

  • The law is broken and the people who know how to fix (reform) it are under funded.

Yes, it is possible to change the law. This is via a term “Law Reform”.

Notable law reforms include the introduction of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920 which allowed women to vote, the introduction of The Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974 gave every American woman, married or not, the right to open her own bank or credit account and the introduction of The Women's Business Ownership Act of 1988 allowed women to get a business loan without a male co-signer allowing women to attain a business loan for their own companies without a male relative co-sign.

The problem is - Law reform experts who undertake this important work are often under funded and resources limiting their ability to scale and expedite their efforts. Real life super women and men who are re-aligning what our justice system looks like need our help. We have the ability to reshape what our legal system looks like which filters into our society, workplaces and homes to create a more equitable world for women and girls.

There have been a total of 45 laws reformed by our impact partners via the important work that they do spanning women equality, sexual assault and human rights.

WMW Co Founder Jess knows this is possible first hand. After a personal and ultimately empowering experience with the justice system, Jess made it her personal mission to use her first hand experience, entrepreneurial thinking and network to create a new and innovative way to educate others on their rights and create sustainable new revenue streams for impact organizations across the world who specialize in law reform. So after a chance meeting with her now co-founder Hayley Evans, WMW was born.

Why? Because it’s 2024, as women and women supporters don’t want pink cupcakes and tokenism, we want law reform.

OUR FOUNDERS

Women Making Waves is co founded by Jessica Wilson and Hayley Evans, the pair met as neighbours throughout the Sydney Covid-19 lockdowns, quickly establishing a friendship grounded in shared values and a desire to harness technology for impact. With restaurants shut, offices closed – the two had time to brainstorm and stretch each others thinking as to what was possible, they quickly realised their skill-sets, connections and background crossover was perfectly complimentary.

Jessica, a successful tech entrepreneur with an innate ability to market to and wrap a vision towards millennial and Gen Z women, a stash of growth awards and pinned by Forbes as one of 1,000 entrepreneurs to change the world in the next 50 years and; Hayley, an investor and hyper-growth driven advisor whose portfolio includes the creation and scale of a $14B company’s tech investment portfolio.

WMW was inspired by Jess’s personal experience of sexual assault, in which she started a lawsuit against the prospect investor - and won. Taking her learnings navigating the justice system to come back and disrupt it from the inside out using technology and a grassroots community of advocates as the vehicle.

And so the story begins. TWO girls, ONE mission and a world ready for CHANGE.
